Fencing

The shecp hudle has been used since the time of carly man, our gate hurdie is made from sweet chestut. Like our trugs, the hurdles are, apart from the morticing of the heads, handmade, and are split and peeled by hand to retain their strength.

Our Standard Hurdie is 6’ x 3’5” with six horizontal bars. (Approximately 1.8m x lm.). Mini hurdles for garden edging are made to scale.

The wattle hurdle is made of hazel and woven into uprights. The hazel is coppiced every 8 - 12 years, thus keeping the trees alive. The roots in the coppice where this hurdle comes from dates back to the Domesday Book. The coppice was the first green’ enterprise, Producing renewable materials for many uses.

Since WOODMAN’S WORLD Started trading, both types of fencing have become increasingly popular in the gardening world due to their rustic appearance.

Other features making them particularly suitable for gardens are their strength, durability and efficiency as windbreaks tor shrubs delicate trees and herbaceouss borders. They can, of course, also serve as an inexpensive but attractive boundary or divisional fence.
